Tesla might be readying a Europe-friendly version of its Cybertruck electric pickup truck, suggests Elon Musk.
The futuristic Tesla Cybertruck is a large truck, rivalling the largest US-model Ford F-150s for size, which makes it generally unsuitable for the more compact environments found throughout Europe and the UK.
Chief executive officer, Elon Musk, had talked about the design of the Cybertruck being modified slightly, reducing its size by an insignificant 3%, mostly in a bid to make it more efficient, tidy up some styling issues and, importantly, make it fit inside a standard US garage.
However, after talking over the design changes with Franz von Holzhausen, Tesla’s chief designer, the final production Cybertruck will remain the same size as the prototype revealed last year.
However, a seemingly throwaway comment from Musk on Twitter suggests there’s the possibility of a smaller pickup in the future that could be more palatable to European users.

“We’ll probably do a smaller, tight world truck at some point,” tweeted Musk.
That’s it. There’s no extra context and little detail, but Musk rarely makes comments of that nature without knowing what’s coming up.
The full-size Cybertruck is expected to launch in the US in late 2021, with lower specification models to follow in 2022. Prices are expected to start from as little as $40,000 (£33,000). Should a compact truck follow, don’t expect to see that until at least 2023.
UPDATE: Elon Musk has all but confirmed that a more European friendly Cybertruck is on the way, tweeting in response to a question on 4 August 2020 that a smaller version for Europe was “highly likely down the road.”
Getting the Cybertruck through European legislation will be difficult, so expect an awful lot of change to the vehicle. In fact, given that Musk has a backup plan of simply making a copycat pickup truck like all the other pickup trucks, it might be worth assuming that we’ll end up with simply a rather more curvaceous but traditional three-box design.
