The Mercedes X-Class looks majestic in this video of the truck being tested on various types of terrain.
This video may be one of the last times you’ll ever see a V6-powered X-Class, as Mercedes has pulled the plug on the premium pickup.
The truck was launched in 2017 but shared so much with the Nissan Navara – including the 2.3-litre turbodiesel engine – that buyers never warmed to the more expensive German-badged model.
However, in the summer of 2018, Mercedes dropped its 3.0-litre V6 diesel unit under the bonnet, lifted straight from the respected G-Wagon. The company also fitted a permanent four-wheel-drive system (4Matic) to improve stability and control, and stiffened the suspension for better performance.
The higher-power also helped mitigate the 2.2-tonne kerb weight of the Mercedes behemoth. It also improved towing capabilities, as well as improved its climbing ability, but it was too late to save the X-Class.
At the time of writing, there are still stocks of V6-powered models available from dealers, but they’re few and far between. Once they’re gone, they’re gone, with zero chance that Mercedes will re-enter the market any time soon.
You’ll just have to keep the memories fresh with this well-produced video.
