Hardcore Hilux: Toyota Gets Arctic Trucks AT35 Treatment

Arctic Trucks has taken the new Toyota Hilux and added its unique blend of extreme engineering and rugged style to the 2.8-litre Invincible X, creating the latest AT35 model.

Based on the Hilux double cab, the AT35 features extensive chassis, suspension, handling and styling upgrades that deliver greater off-road capabilities and uniquely powerful looks.

Toyota Hilux AT35: Upgrades

The Hilux AT35 has many new and updated features over the regular model. Key elements include re-engineering of the vehicle’s frame, inner arches and bodywork and the fitting of 17-inch Arctic Trucks alloy wheels with 35-inch BFGoodrich KO2 All-Terrain tyres.

The Arctic Trucks Bilstein performance suspension system, featuring front springs and dampers, anti-roll bar adjustment and rear dampers with extended shackles, has been updated, producing an extra 40mm of front and 20mm of rear suspension lift. Torque and drivability are optimised with re-gearing of the front and rear differentials.

Toyota Hilux AT35: Benefits

Making changes to the chassis and suspension has increased the running ground clearance by 65mm (to 375mm), and improved approach and departure angles by as much as 9 degrees.

An elevated driving position allows for improved visibility, while the wider front and rear tracks, wider tyres and a larger, “lighter” footprint offer more secure driving over soft terrain. The larger tyres also provide an increased suspension effect, giving a smoother ride over rough surfaces, with a greater range for using lower pressures to improve traction in challenging conditions.

Extra practicality is provided by a rear height bar with a two-inch receiver hitch for quick and easy deployment of tow balls, winches, steps, gear carriers or other accessories.
