Video: Isuzu D-Max XTR vs Motocross Bike

If you doubt whether the new Isuzu D-Max XTR is as tough as it looks, check out this video of the pickup going head-to-head with a motocross bike across tough terrain.

The striking new ‘adventure’ model has all the ingredients to venture off the road and turn heads on the road. We put it to the test on some unforgiving terrain including a slate quarry and forest trails

Isuzu has found itself a loyal fanbase among the agricultural and construction industries, thanks to the rugged durability and capabilities of the likes of the Isuzu KB pickup and Trooper.

However, unlike other manufacturers, Isuzu has failed to take full advantage of the lifestyle pickup boom that we’ve experienced over recent years. While there’s no questioning the D-Max’s productivity and reliability, it trails many of its stablemates when it comes to comfort, refinement and that all-important kerb appeal.

With the new D-Max XTR, and this video, Isuzu is hoping to change that.

Isuzua has added an aggressive plastic surround at the front, visually separating it from the commercial roots of the D-Max, with some metal sheets underneath protecting the engine and gearbox from errant bits of forest, quarry or Waitrose car park.

The truck has also been lifted with some Pedders suspension (you can catch a glimpse of the green springs hiding in the wheel arches) so that it’s now at least 25cm from anything solid. The wheel arches have been extended, the wheels are oversized and jet black, and there’s even a spoiler sticking out from the rear.
